The International Breast Milk Project has partnered with Prolacta Bioscience to ensure 100% safety of the donor milk. Prolacta Bioscience donates the collection, testing, processing, and shipment of the milk to Kenya. The milk undergoes the most rigorous testing available in the world today, including at home blood testing of the donor mom. Strict temperature controls and monitoring ensure the safety of the milk during transit.
Prolacta Bioscience, headquartered in Monrovia, California is a life sciences company that provides specialty formulations of human milk for the nutritional needs of premature and critically ill infants. During the first few weeks of life, these fragile babies have nutritional requirements that exceed the protein, minerals, and total calories that naturally occur in mother's milk. This nutrition is critical for the long term health and growth of the babies. As a result, it is the practice of many neonatology departments to fortify (add nutrients to) mother's milk. Prolacta’s Human Milk Fortifier is the only fortifier made exclusively from human milk.
